New iPods announced
If you are like me, then as soon as the iPhone came out, you wanted something similar but without the phone and more storage space. Apple held a press conference the other day that lived up to half of that dream.
These new devices, called the iPod touch offer all the features of the iphone without the phone. So you can browse the internet, check the weather, etc. However, the space is limited to 16GB in the largest model.
I don't understand how they can up the regular ipods size up to 160GB, and yet this iPod touch which is clearly made for video content can only hold 16 gigs so much for the "your entire music collection in your pocket" tagline. This just seems like a huge step backwards.

That’s because Apple is focusing on the ‘casual user’ audience, not the hard-core music lovers.
They try to make the iPod touch ‘affordable’ (lolz) and not give the unit too much core memory.

It’s 16gb because they’re using flash memory instead of miniature hard drives. Flash memory is less likely to fail because it doesn’t have any moving parts, while the hard drives have lots of little discs that spin around really fast and have a lot more potential to screw up and brick your ipod. It’s kind of pointless unless you work out while listening to music, if your player isn’t bouncing around a lot you don’t really need flash memory. I’m happy with my 30gb zune at the moment though
